Part I: Out of ancient Rome a rat soldier named Gaius Rattus, through an anomaly in time space, emerged in the year 2022. He was very confused to see how humans had taken over all the superior social and political functions. His rat friends seemed to have vanished from the earth’s surface.
By chance he spotted one of his kind and followed it into the sewers. He was repelled by the idea, that his proud species were to live underground and live off the feces of men. When he met the group, the shabby looking rat he had followed seemed to belong to, they already expected him.
„Hi there! Welcome to our collective!“ One of the rats said, „Ave, Ratsar!“, he replied and asked „What is this place? Why aren’t you out fighting, working or going to school?“ All of the modern rats laughed loudly. „We’re a collective!“, one of them answered, „We don’t have to fight or learn or work. You know, the humans are so incredibly stupid, they throw away all kinds of stuff, that we can use. We eat their leftovers, use their garbage to build our homes and extract medicine from their feces to cure us. We let them believe that we’re useless scum, but really we use them as livestock.“ „But what about your fur? Why is it so colourful and strangely done?“ Gaius asked. „Well, we’re punk, you see, we don’t care about tradition, race, gender, your sexual orientation or religion – we just want to live our lives, have some fun and play our music. Do you want to hear some of tunes? My name is Sid, by the way – Sid Rattus.“ „Sure, I’m Gaius Rattus“, the ancient rat replied.
The band called „the Ratmones“ picked up their instruments and started to play – „Beat on the rat!“ was their first song… he liked it very much, despite the lyrics, that he didn’t really get, but he soon was overwhelmed by the rats’ enthusiasm and dedication. He couldn’t help it, threw down his shield and spear and started jumping around like a mad rat. That truely was an amazing feeling. And thus, his journey began...
